About Us

HRC – the Human Rights Collective is a group of community organisers and grassroots activists dedicated to the promotion and protection of human rights, democracy, and the environment in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. Our work centres on empowering human rights defenders through capacity building, knowledge sharing, strategic communications, and digital transformation.

As a collective, our members drive people-centred programmes and initiatives from the ground up using participatory approaches, methods, and tools. We collaborate with partners in civil society, academia, the public sector, and the business world to build resilience and foster solidarity within the wider human rights community in the country and the region.

Ongoing Programmes and Initiatives

The collective currently works in the following focus areas:

  • Civic Engagement – A public education programme empowering citizens in democratic participation and representation;
  • Human Rights Defenders Support – A resource network supporting community organisers and grassroots activists; and
  • Technology Enablement – A digital empowerment initiative for civil society organisations and human rights defenders.

Work with Us

HRC is a launchpad for community and grassroots leaders who are looking to advance their human rights work. The collective also serves as an incubator of innovative ideas that can shape the future of human rights advocacy.

As a collective, we operate with a distributed and anti-hierarchical organisational framework. Our members work in collaborative circles, with clearly defined roles, set objectives, and allocated resources.

We are always on the lookout for new members who to are driven to take their advocacy work to the next level. To learn more about working with the collective, email us at collective@humanrights.my (Public Key).
